Auto Connect allows you to connect 2 ipads (or a few more) via bluetooth. Bluetooth is not as reliable as wifi and is generally not recommend, but when available can be convenient. Here is how to setup a master and slave configuration.

If you are using wifi, this is the recommend way to connect and is very reliable.

NOTE: It should be mentioned that the Bluetooth connection has been broken several times over iOS versions. Currently it is working under 9.3.5 and 10.3.x but this could change at any time.
